If you haven't figured out my pattern yet, I post on Wednesday evenings. Why? Because Thursday is the magic day when the week number changes over and the little sweet pea is a new fruit of the week. Today's post is a few hours early because tomorrow we head to LegoLand! I am so stinking excited.
I am a little nervous to travel because I normally have a patch I wear behind my ear to help with vertigo. The Dr. said that patch isn't proven to be safe for the sweet pea, so I'm not chancing it. I love to travel; and yet I get vertigo.. so it feel like the whole world is swirling around me. I am REALLY hoping that that doesn't happen and I can continue to travel without that awful feeling. No one was able to give me suggestions on what to do instead of my normal routine. So if you have a suggestions- post it to the comments.
Back to the week....
Again, it felt like a long week. Its hard to comprehend how much goes on in one week. I'm sure once the little sweet pea is here time will fly and I won't even know what day it was.
Week 9 brought the end of the quarter. I was so ready. Not only was I feeling nauseous and hating food (still), I was also really ready for naps, and time at home, and a break from my gradebook. I had ups and downs with that thing for a week. Classes didn't work, classes went missing, which means I was going to have to put in an entire quarter worth of grades, again. When all I want to do is sleep, and try to eat- putting in grades again doesn't sound fun.
Friday brought on my first "baby brain" moment. If you have never heard that before, it is the term for when a pregnant lady does something forgetful that she would likely not have done when not growing a human. So in the morning of Friday when I was getting ready for work and grabbing my keys, this note was on my keys when I headed to work.
I. was. sick. thinking about how awful that was. I got home at 5:30pm. The hubs got home about 2:30am. Did you do the math and realize how many HOURS that is? I did. I confessed my awful incident over and over again thinking that would make it feel better. It did not. I still feel bad and I am lucky the car was still there and my husband comes home at a different time than I do.
Thankfully Friday was a work day and I could be a little more secluded, although there were some things in my day that were yuck, it was a survived work day, and we got to leave at noon. I came home as fast as I could and the hubs and I went for lunch. I came home, had a nap, and packed up for Boulder. Last week was EdCamp, this weekend was the GAFE summit. I look forward to it every year. We had an amazing room and were at the same location as my EdTechTeam Friends. This was also the very FIRST Colorado Educator Group meet up, aka GEG. It was awesome. As I ran into friends, I was able to tell them the news. I know some super sweet and amazingly kind people in the EdTech world. A couple of them even took me up on the offer to be their sober driver. I know that will be my role for a long while; but its nice to have a use. I had my obligatory apple juice in a fancy glass, and I had to continue to say "its just apple juice" as people knew and walked by me. I appreciate their concern.
The evening wrapped up, we bought snacks for the weekend and headed to the room. And the "we" is not just me and the sweet pea- my dear friend and partner in Tablets Julie was my roomie. I took new prenatals that night and was nauseous all night long. I was co-presenting 3 sessions during Saturday, I couldn't be sick when it was time to be "on". It was hard to get up on a Saturday; but honestly, I was so excited I could hardly stand it. Yes, I get that excited about edtech. I had crackers just to get up. First time I had to take meds just to get up and function. I felt better as the day went on and it was awesome to present. My last session of the day I was winded, and finally had to tell attendees, "What is not on this slide, is that I am 9 weeks pregnant and everything makes me tired. I'm a little winded, I hope you don't mind giving me a couple seconds to catch my breath." Most of them were just excited to hear something new on my intro slide, some thought it was funny. I try to make presentations funny, so we'll call that a win. The day wound down and was great, some friends would smile and were so sweet all day, I can't even say how much I appreciate them all. We had a presenters dinner that was a little smelly between the garlic in the air and terrible perfume. I had to take meds just to make it through dinner.
I thought I was going to head back to the hotel and straight to bed... didn't happen. There was amazing conversation happening with some of my favorite people in the lobby- and those are precious moments. Plus it was a friend's 30th birthday. So I went to bed at 12:30. I almost fell asleep in my clothes.
I did not wake up early enough to make the Keynote the next day. I was a little sad to miss that. AND everywhere the EdTechTeam travels, they show this really cute picture of two of our students. It makes me excited to know their faces travel around the world. Sunday was a good day and I got to just attend sessions.
I made it home and the hubs wanted to go shopping. I was so hungry and tired I finally just said, "I don't care where you take me, just take me somewhere- I need to eat." He thought it was a funny and knew it was time to feed the lady with a baby. We never made it to the store. We ate and came home to go to bed early.
There was a definite boundary learned this weekend. I was slated to Run the Rocks. An annual 5k at Red Rocks that I organize and run as part of Team Awesome. I was winded just walking to and from the presenter dinner. I knew there was no way I was going to be able to make this race. I felt awful bowing out. Going to bed late didn't help either. I am hoping to make a return next year. I just couldn't go and feel awful later and run myself into the ground. So I didn't. In honor of Team Awesome, I wore my team shirt. I know I made the right decision and I can't do it all. Learning that boundary was a really hard one to learn.
This week has been so busy. Monday I had more to do and get done. I had an acupuncture appointment that made me feel so much better. I know some don't believe in that; but let me tell you, I feel a HUGE difference and have not been nauseous since that treatment. Monday I also had lunch with a friend and her sweet little boy, and it was so nice to get to catch up and talk babies. She has good wise words to share. I so appreciate that. She also was worried I wasn't doing well because she read my blog and saw my pictures. She noticed that I looked thinner. Normally a compliment; just not when everyone is looking for the belly to grow. After that lunch, I laid in bed the rest of the day. Seriously watched TV and napped the rest of the day. It felt so nice to catch up. I did get up and have dinner with the hubs at work. That was a nice highlight. I don't often get to do that. I came home and it was more sleeping and resting. I must have needed that.
Tuesday I got to see a friend I have known since kindergarten and go on one of our dates. We had lunch at Le Peep, and my food dreams came true with some french toast with... BUTTER! It was delicious! We went to the movies, and I had popcorn with... BUTTER! It was amazing. I did feel a bit guilty that I didn't share with him as much as I normally do. I would hit a pocket of buttery goodness in the bag and it was hard to stop. We had a little break from the movies and went roaming. Then went back and watched another movie. No popcorn this time. Although it did sound good. We were going to try and round out all my food dreams with some Sweet Action Ice Cream; but I didn't want to press my luck. We did go to our favorite Chinese place and those crab cheese wantons were so good they didn't need butter. He is also one of the best gift givers and gave me these super cute towels, that are now officially the first gift for the little sweet pea's room. He didn't know that would happen; but they are too cute just for me. My child will know all about Totoro- my favorite anime movie. Its adorable if you need a good gushy cute animated movie.

Today I worked on a few things and napped with my cat Sassafras. She is a good napper. I am packing and getting ready for our super fun trip. I am also excited that my mom is bringing my very favorite pasta from Nano's. My favorite place to eat in Trinidad. If you ever go- tell Fran Beth says hi. SO I am sitting here hanging out and getting ready for the next adventure, with my mouth watering about that delicious polenta.
I do realize that most of this post was about food. I understand that I am super focused on food and I am really trying hard to work on food not being my whole life. I still feel like I'm in survival mode and all I can do is try to keep eating and working through the "sickness" knowing that those feelings mean that hormones are at work and the sweet pea is hopefully happily growing and enjoying all the butter.

Hello gorgeous! We are SO excited for you and Brice to be parents and so looking forward to meeting the Sweet Pea! It's a bunch of fun to follow your journey of discovery, and we are sure this new little person couldn't have a better start or a better mom and dad!
ReplyDeleteOn the vertigo, have you investigated copper or magnetic bracelets? We've heard from various folks over the years who have had success with motion sickness using them. Maybe worth a try, and kinda pretty, too. Have an awesome time at LegoLand and know that we love you!
